Steps from NYU, this dark and dingy beer snob burrow offers a refreshing respite from the lights and commotion above. With a tiny sign and steep steps down from Macdougal Street, 124 Old Rabbit Club is nearly invisible to the uninitiated. The small space holds only a couple high top tables and about a dozen bar stools tucked up against a long and homely bar. Anything it lacks in appointments however, is most definitely made up for in sustenance.
The beer list is, in a word, exotic and though not substantially vast, its offerings include some of the finest brews from around the world. Most are in bottles and few if any are easy on the pocketbook but in most cases well worth the expense. Between the confines of the snug space and the eclectic playlist the atmosphere remains calm and collected, ideal for low conversation or self-reflection.
